Taste and See — An Invitation to True Rest
Welcome to Part 8 in this 8-part series, Sweeter Than Honey, where we’ll use the rich imagery of bees, honey, and the rhythms of creation to explore how Sabbath invites us to step out of exhaustion and rediscover the sweetness, rest, and delight found in the presence of God.
Matthew 11:28
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.”
Perhaps you are reading this and realizing how tired you truly are. Not just physically but spiritually, emotionally, mentally. Maybe your life has been moving at breakneck speed for so long that you barely remember what true rest feels like.
Jesus offers a different way. He says: “Come to me.” Not “figure it out” or “work harder” or “be more productive.”
Simply “Come to me.”
Sabbath is ultimately an invitation into the restful presence of Jesus. It is an invitation to stop striving long enough to remember who we belong to.
Maybe this is the first time you have heard about this kind of rest. Maybe your soul is longing for something deeper. If so, begin there. Tell Jesus you are weary. Tell Him you cannot keep living at this pace. Ask Him to teach you His rhythms.
And if you are a follower of Jesus whose heart has grown dry, begin again. Not perfectly, just honestly. Step back into the rhythm God designed.
Rest.
Receive.
Taste the sweetness of God’s Word again.
If you want to discover the goodness of God in a deeper way, stop living busy like a bee, working yourself to exhaustion, and begin embracing Sabbath. It may begin with a full day or perhaps just a sacred hour, but sit at the feet of Jesus.
Listen to His words.
And ask Him, “Lord, would You make this sweet to me again?”
Because He delights to answer that prayer.
And when He does, you will discover that His words are not merely true. They are sweeter than honey.
